Report on Cement Bonded Particleboard, Its Applications and a Preliminary Assessment of a Plant to be Located in Alberta

Study prompted by the availability of the Fulgurit plant, a West German cement bonded particleboard (CBPB) manufacturing facility. The engineering study describes CBPB, compares it to other board products, and presents the historical development, ingredients, exterior and interior applications, workability, and specifications. The only fast curing process considered is the Bison process. A brief market survey establishes the type of current board products and applications where CBPB is better qualified and/or lower priced, indicating also market elasticity. The total capital cost requirements of the plant, operating in Alberta, were investigated along with product cost calculations on a site in the Edmonton area, a site at Cochrane, outside of Calgary, and a new plant of the same size and technology. A gross selling price was assumed in competition with other similar board products. Financial projections include balance sheets, income and expense statements, cash flows, and detailed backup documentation.
