One Thursday evening, over coffee, one of us narrated his story of meeting Pinoys in the US who would avoid being identified as Pinoys. Everyone jumped in with their own stories of Pinoys being reluctant to be identified as Pinoys. Then the question - Why? Are they ashamed to be Pinoy? This lead to another question - Do we even have a FILIPINO WORD for PRIDE? One said TAAS NOO, another IPAGMAYABANG, another ASTIG and so the conversation evolved into the closest word we could think of - TAAS NOO and someone added KAHIT KANINO. Wow! TAAS NOO KAHIT KANINO - such a long word for pride! Is this indicative of our lack of pride as Filipinos? And so began our journey to document reasons why we should be proud to be Pinoy.
