"Digital Personality is defined as any computing that incorporates the human character within its context. The character is the individual person with all of his/her defining or describing features. This includes stable personality traits, variable affective, cognitive and motivational states as well as history, morals, beliefs, skills, appearance, and sociocultural embeddings, to name a few. In practical terms, depending on the application context, Digital Personality is a branch of advance research that deals with the design of systems and interfaces that can observe, sense, predict, adapt to, affect, understand, or simulate the following: character based on behaviour and situation, behaviour based on character and situation, or situation based on character and behaviour. Digital Personality can be divided into three main research modules: character sensing and profiling, character-aware adaptive systems, and artificial characters. Since the introduction of the term "Digital Personality" captured the attention of researchers from diverse research fields ranging from HCI, character modelling, to Psychology. Digital Personality is envisioned to be a rapidly growing field, as technologies and computer systems are becoming ubiquitously integrated into our daily life. This raised the need for a seamless, natural user interface to support daily users. This is reflected in the vast amount of research conducted in the context of user-aware and adaptive interfaces over the past years. Digital Personality will exhibit similar importance to that of the well-established Affective Computing field. Affective Computing aims to allow the machine to understand the users' verbal and nonverbal communications. For instance, use implicit facial expressions, body postures, gaze, and voice tones to infer the emotional state, as well as, responding accordingly or even exhibiting affects through the interaction modalities. The greater goal would be more seamless natural human-computer interaction. This will provide users a better personalized experience. Further, this will influence the performance of the user, where they will have the support of the machines to achieve their tasks in the most efficient way. This book is the first of a kind in introducing Digital Personality. It provides an overview of the character dimensions and how state-of-the-art technologies would accommodate such a research field. It presents a novel representation of character from various perspectives. Further, this book presents the applications of this emerging research field"--
