The first part of this report summarizes the proceedings of a workshop which brought together experts in various disciplines, stakeholders, and industry personnel to develop methodologies & set priorities for field studies of the effects of seismic exploration on catchability of groundfish, and to a lesser extent, of the effects on pelagic species, fish eggs & larvae, and shellfish. It includes summaries of presentations on such topics as the sounds produced by seismic arrays & their transmission, the hearing abilities of fish, and the effects of external sounds on fish. The second part synthesizes the workshop results and is meant to be used as a starting point by those designing & prioritizing studies. It includes experimental protocols for in-situ & experimental studies. This is followed by recommendations for research priorities.
