Jenna Ainsley returns home to Montpelier, Vermont for the Christmas holidays. Her brother, Clint, and her cousin, Justin, are to join her. Jenna has a surprise waiting for her when she gets home. Nick Cane, the new hired-hand for her grandfather, is six-two, good looking and very well built. Her grandfather, Ted, tries to hook them up. The holiday is a huge success with sleigh rides, a party and Jenna and Nick coming together. Tragedy hit's the family when Justin and Juliette, his fiancée, are caught in a drive-by shooting in New York City. Juliette dies while Justin hangs on by a thread. A long recovery is ahead for Justin. Nick and Jenna decide to marry. They honeymoon is in Kentucky. Nick tries to buy a horse by the name of Midnight. His idea is to start a stud farm. A conglomerate from Colorado wants to start a ski resort in Vermont. They are buying out farmers all around the Ainsley farm. They try to force them out. Accidents start happening on the farm. Clint, who becomes Chief of Police in Rutland, Vermont, is shot. The culprit, is a hit-man, hired by Jane Dawson, who is head of the ski development conglomerate, tries to kill Jenna. A man is killed and the governor is involved, or so they think. They later learn the governor's son has a vested interest in the development.Gabe, one of the farmers, wants to retire, but won't sell to the ski development conglomerate. He asks Ted Ainsley, Jenna's grandfather, to buy him out. The family agrees. More trouble brews when the ski development corp. and Jane Dawson learn of a buy-out. More dead bodies appear. Jenna learns she's pregnant and almost looses the baby, after being run off the road by one of Jane Dawson's henchmen. She finds out she's having twins. Nick is in heaven, while Jenna freaks out. With some difficulty, the twins are born and life gets better for everyone except Justin.
