This report provides insight into the police view and engage with the victims of crime in Victoria, including their perceptions of their role in relation to victims, attitudes towards victims of crime, the breadth and diversity of police?victim interactions, the ways in which they respond to and manage victim-related protocols and processes, and the ways in which they engage with external agencies in the provision of support to victims. Interviews were conducted with 204 Victoria Police members from 19 stations across the state. This report presents the findings of the interviews, assesses the benefits and challenges of recent changes in Victoria Police processes and policies regarding police?victim communicate, and presents recommendations for improving the management of victim?police interactions and victim notification processes.
