This Atlas uses full colour illustrations throughout to provide a unique visual representation of normal musculoskeletal anatomy. Organized by anatomic region, every spread provides a wealth of instant information. Each page carries an MR image together with a comparative line diagram derived directly from the image by computer scan for accuracy of transfer. Each diagram is colour-coded and labelled. The colour code runs consistently through the Atlas to differentiate between tissue type (bone is yellow, veins are blue, arteries red etc.) and the colour code is re-identified on each page. An additional diagram indicates the level at which the image was taken, and all images are from living patients.
MRI is a routine diagnostic and management tool in the everyday work of the radiologist, orthopaedic surgeon, and rheumatologist, and offers distinct advantages over other imaging techniques: MRI is harmless to patients; the new generation of MRI machines are fast, lightweight, cheap, and easy to use; and the MR image allows for greater accuracy in differential diagnosis. Accurate pathologic diagnosis, however, demands a firm understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy.
