"Wuthering Heights" is Emily Brontë's first and only published novel, written between October 1845 and June 1846, and published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell. Emily decided to publish after the success of her sister, Charlotte Bronte's novel, "Jane Eyre". It is the story of love between the gypsy foundling Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. Catherine, forced to choose between passionate, tortured Heathcliff and gentle, well-bred Edgar Linton, surrendered to the expectations of her class. Heathcliff passes on his bitterness and vengeance at his betrayal upon the next generation. The innocent heirs must struggle to escape the legacy of the past.
