Margaret Hall's Three Generation Families is a sociological perspective concerning families made up of varying numbers of generations. The focus is on issues such as society, values, religion, social class, identity, history, and other items.Three Generation Familiesis based on both personal and professional experiences as well as on current developments in family theory. The information is drawn from the experiences of the author as she experienced the intergenerational relationships of an only child, a wife, a mother and a grandmother.As a sociological theorist and researcher, the author has interviewed many family members and conducted a private practice in family therapy. This applied work has provided valuble ongoing opportunities to assess the impact of intergenerational relationships on both individual and family relationships in both professional settings the author has come to respect the tremendous power and influence that intergenerational family dependencies have on our behavior.Three Generation Familiesis a summation of these diverse experiences, a review of the author's research findings, and a series of reflections of the significance of family connectedness.The experiences of the family with whom the author has worked are the life-blood of this work. These family members' honesty about the use of problematic and successful strategies for coping with family crises and everyday pressures has yielded much evidence and know-how about the many ways in which the emotional systems of three generation families influence interpersonal and social behavior.
