Development of Specialty Crop Suitability Maps for Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food

Describes the development of maps characterizing the suitability of areas of Saskatchewan for production of herb crops. The development involved gathering of information on crop characteristics, soil and landscape properties, and climatic information, and integrating the data with the province's Soil Survey Geographic Information System. Based on the limited information gathered to date, 15 suitability maps and information sheets are presented for the following herbs: caraway, coriander, cumin, fenugreek, dill, French tarragon, and horseradish (culinary crops); garlic, evening primrose, and borage (medicinal crops); and camomile, hyssop, and monarda (tea crops). The accompanying information sheets explain the map legend, note what the map is based on, and include bibliographic references.
