The Millers are long-time California residents, residing for many years in the Ontario are. Peggy moved to the San Bernardino Valley in 1930, then in 1948 homesteaded near Twentynine Palms. Taking up a hobby of California history, she was doing much of the research for the writings of her son, Ron. Ron was born in Eureka and has studied at Stanford and at USC and received his MA for the University of Redlands. He is at present teaching in the Ontario School District and has spent summers as a ranger-naturalist at Joshua Tree National Monument. His published works include "Shady Ladies of the West" and "Mines of the High Desert." Mines of the Mojave is the seventh book o the La Siesta Press series on the Mines of California. It covers the numerous mining districts running across the upper Mojave Desert from Tropico, west of the town of Mojave, to Mountain Pass, a little west of the Nevada border. Except for those of Calico and Randsburg, most of these are little known, yet provide interesting jaunts for the visitor who does not sigh to drive too far from the metropolitan centers. Many others may be reached by a short side trip from the Los Angeles-Las Vegas highway. These include in addition to the old gold and silver mines, the now very important "non-metallic" such as borax, talc, soda-ash and the TV-fluors of the Mountain Pass region
