📖 The Scoop

This is the first of three books written for the new 1-10 Queensland English syllabus, and covers levels 4 and 5. The series has a commitment to critical literacy practices, and each unit utilises a range of critical skills and terms. There is particular focus on the core content of the syllabus - elements such as discourse, purpose, roles and relationships, mode and medium, and conventions of language systems. Information and communication technology activities are integrated, along with a range of text types: traditional and contemporary, literary and non-literary, single and multimodal. Contents include: - School lives - A multimedia world - Visual texts - Myths and legends - Selling a holiday: words that persuade; words that stir our emotions; the sales pitch - Constructing narratives - Television realities: television genres; advertising; reality television; the origin of Big Brother - Making news: Looking at newspapers - Traditional and functional grammar.
