📖 The Scoop
On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox dipped his artificial leg into the Atlantic Ocean. It was the beginning of his Marathon of Hope, a run across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. For 143 days, Fox ran an average of 42 kilometres each day. He made it two-thirds of the way across Canada before his run was cut short. Fox's cancer had returned. Although Fox hoped to beat cancer again and finish his run, he died on June 28, 1981, at the age of 22. Fox raised $24.2 million for cancer research. More importantly, he inspired cancer survivors around the world in his spirit.
Genre: Juvenile Nonfiction / Humor / Comic Strips & Cartoons (fancy, right?)
