📖 The Scoop
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of a numerical wave model developed by D.T. Resio to a number of factors which may affect the accuracy of the model's wave hindcasts. In the first set of tests, the sensitivity of the model to errors in input in wind fields was determined using synthetic storm input subjected to a random perturbation in central pressure and in storm centre velocity. In the second set, the model's sensitivity to grid spacing and time step was evaluated using both synthetic and real event inputs. Two events from a list of severe storms were hindcast in order to test the performance of the model, and results are compared to measured wave parameters.
