Cambridge Reading is a major reading scheme offering a comprehensive, structured and stimulating approach to the teaching and learning of reading. It provides a range of books and support materials to help children acquire the skills, understanding and motivation that leads to successful reading. Organised into five broad development phases, Cambridge Reading offers a balanced provision, including: high-quality fiction, poetry and information books; a stage-by-stage structure to help children make smooth progress; a balance of genres and text types; a range of support materials; and an integrated phonics programme. Teacher's Book 1 gives essential guidance on how to introduce the scheme in Reception/Primary 1. Part 1 contains a grid showing all the resources in the fist two phases and begins with an overview of the scheme as a whole. It goes on to give specific guidance on how best to use the books and support materials in the first phase and concludes with suggestions on fostering home-school links and on keeping records of children's individual progress. Photocopy masters are provided for the home-school links and record-keeping sections. Part 2 consists of photocopiable reading development and phonic development worksheets to accompany each book, as well as a page of teacher's notes giving detailed suggestions about how to share the books with the children and how to use the accompanying worksheets.
