Consultation by Crime and Disorder Partnerships

Crime and disorder reduction partnerships have a statutory duty to consult on an audit of local crime and disorder. Inaddition a number of stages of the cycle of partnership working specified in the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act had the potential to involve consultation. In response, the Policing and Reducing Crime Unit commissioned research in 1999 to identify good practice in the consultation undertaken by partnerships to meet the requirements of the Act. At the national level, this work involved a survey of community safety cordinators, a review of documentation and discussion with relevant agencies, while detailed research was understaken at a local level in five case study sites.
