Two classic works on prayer, edited and annotated for the modern reader: Prevailing Prayer: What Hinders It?, by the evangelist, D. L. Moody (1837-99), and With Christ in the School of Prayer, by Andrew Murray (1828-1917), the Reformed missionary, pastor, and author. Ever inspirational, challenging, and informative, these two books have continued to teach and encourage Christians since their original publications. To assist the modern reader, especially the person who may not have an extensive church background, the Biblical quotations have been updated and, in Murray, the language of his prayers (Thou becomes You, etc.). Biblical references and allusions have been identified. Information has also been provided regarding references to persons who may have been more well-known to the original 19th-century audience than would be the case today.
