Drawing Academy is a comprehensive four-part course for art students. Its format is based on formal drawing programs given at major art schools. Originally available as four separate volumes, this much larger new book brings all four parts together, presenting a complete program to teach you every aspect of the art of drawing.

Part One. The Basics of Drawing--The materials, the tools, and the fundamental principles, which include form, proportions, tonal ranges, and more.
Part Two. Line and Shading in Drawing--Controlling the width and intensity of lines in your drawings, and developing techniques that suggest dimension and surface textures.
Part Three. Light and Shadow in Drawing--The ways in which light falls on your model, and various methods for rendering light and shade to produce dramatic effects.
Part Four. Perspective Drawing--Understanding geometric principles that hold your drawings together, and seeing subjects from fresh points of view to create surprising results.

DRAWING ACADEMY'S 3-STEP METHOD FOR SUCCESS

Learning by Doing--You engage in specific exercises that teach you mastery of strokes, contour and cross-contour drawing, shading, and more.
Sketchbook--Following each chapter, you're encouraged to isolate parts of your overall composition, gauge your success, correct errors, and develop your draftsman's skills
Analysis--In addition to practice, you must learn to see through an artist's eyes. You discover how to find solutions to problems you encountered in your exercises.
