Programming with Latino Children's Materials

This comprehensive resource offers planning and programming tips and information on the materials needed to begin, improve, or expand upon services to Latino children. The first section provides an overview of the culture and the literature, spotlights some authors and classic tales, and provides the ingredients for successful programs: song lyrics, fingerplays, rhymes, riddles, scripts, recordings, films, and specific titles, in Spanish and English. Most of the suggestions are for a preschool and elementary age audience, but older children and intergenerational programs are briefly considered. The second section is a virtual guide to collection development in this area. A discussion on the evaluation and selection of material is followed by lists of online resources, distributors, publishers, and an 86-page annotated bibliography of professional resources and children's books.
