When Gift & MysteryÓ was published -- the book in which John Paul II recounted his memories & reflections on the early years of his priesthood -- he received many messages, especially from young people, saying how much they liked it. On the occasion of the 45th ann'y. of his ordination as a bishop & the 25th ann'y. of his election as the successor of St. Peter, John Paul II was asked to write a sequel to those recollections, beginning with the year 1958 when he was named a bishop. He also drew upon his synthesis of the ideas that emerged from the 10th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. He recalled the years during which he served the Church in Krakow as well as many new situations he experienced in Rome as Pope.
