Danny Clay worked in TV before he joined the Army as a combat engineer. Ten years later he's back on the street, making a living as a TV scriptwriter while working towards that big break they all dream about. Life is full of promise until one of his writer friends very publicly commits suicide, another is beaten to death and a third one disappears. Oh, and his cute neighbour, Zan, may have committed the perfect crime, as described in one of his scripts.Meanwhile Danny's big break - his very own TV drama - is sunk by a single word. So as Hollywood beckons, just when Danny gets a local gangster seriously angry, police are asking about his script that contains the "perfect crime", and someone is shot dead in his apartment, he surrenders to his fate and heads for LA with Zan in tow.He worries that he's running away. In fact, he's walking right into a situation that will require all the skills he acquired in Afghanistan, as well as Zan's street smarts. Along the way this unlikely duo have to deal with a hustling agent, a slimy producer, a bullying TV executive, a wannabe criminal and his sociopath girlfriend, a drug smuggling gangster ... and a poet.Perfect is a comic crime caper in the style of Carl Hiaasen and Janet Evanovitch. It is based very loosely on the author's own experiences as a scriptwriter, a true crime author and his books about combat engineers.
