📖 The Scoop
This paper discusses the measurement of piston temperatures using an L-link mechanism and gives the results of measurements for various engine operating conditions. The piston crown temperature changed from approximately 140 to 200 deg C under the test matrix covering engine speeds from 1,000 to 4,000 rpm in 500 rpm increments and five levels of engine load at 1/4 load interval. The influence of changes in spark timing, coolant temperature and knocking combustion on piston temperatures were also investigated. Finally, a relationship between piston temperature and inlet manifold Reynolds number was developed.
