1990 Beaufort Sea Ice Scour Repetitive Mapping Program

Reports on a program having the ultimate goal of providing sufficient information on present-day ice scour dynamics to effectively constrain the design of subsea installations in the Beaufort Sea. Chapter 1 provides background on previous Beaufort ice scour data bases, as well as on the historical development of repetitive mapping and the new scour data base (NEWBASE). Scour parameters relevant to subsea engineering are also addressed. Chapter 2 summarizes a 1990 repetitive mapping field program and discusses implications of new survey technology. Chapter 3 describes new scour identification, scour parameter measurement, and data processing techniques used, concluding with results of a comparative scour depth re-measurement project. Results of the NEWBASE update and scour tracking study are presented in chapter 4, including a preliminary analysis of scour distribution and scour depth distribution with respect to water depth. Detailed descriptions of tracked scours and a three-stage model of scour rise-up processes are also provided. The final chapter summarizes the 1990 update and analysis of NEWBASE as well as results of the scour tracking study.
