Maths Skills for Science

📖 The Scoop

A series of three books (for ages 6-7, 8-9 and 10-11) providing matchedunits of maths and science work. Each unit of work provideslesson plans and photocopiable pages to help the busy teacher toexplain particular key maths skills and then deliver science investigationsor experiments where those maths skills are needed.The maths work samples skills from across the curriculum, guidedby the National Nuneracy Strategy. The science work has been chosento complement the requirements of the QCA 'Science Scheme of Work',but also includes units relevant to the Scottish 5-14 guidelines.'Maths Skills for SCIENCE for Years 5 & 6 (Scottish Primary 6-7)'aims to provide parallel work for maths and science in Years 5 &6/Scottish Primary 6-7. The book is organised to reflect the strandsin the NNS: Number; Calculation & problem-solving; Measures;Shape and space; Recording and organising data; Handling and interpretingdata. Key maths skills from the objectives for Years 5and 6 are matched to science content needing those skills. Primarily,the QCA science units for Years 5 and 6 have been used to suggestrelevant science contexts and investigations in which to usethe maths. However, the other UK curriculum documents, and particularlythe Scottish 5-14 Science guidelines for children workingat or around Level D, have been used to broaden the scope of thecontent appropriately.
