Book 1: The digitisation of newspapers by the National Library (Trove) has provided and amazing resource for historians. The following material, published in the Cairns Post, and weekly Northern Herald, is available on-line via the Trove website; what we have done is make the material available in one place in an accessible format. The articles by Coyyan (Michael or Mike O'Leary) are an important resource for better understanding of Aboriginal history in our area, but some context is important. O'Leary was not an historian. He was a miner, he was paid to write articles of interest to readers. There is a lot of important information within the following pages, although much of it may be inaccurate or exaggerated; his perception of events was distorted by time and culture. However, these articles are some of the earliest accounts of Aboriginal society in North Queensland during the period of frost contact with Europeans. ...
