Khalid Kishtainy is one of the most respected Arab journalists of his generation. His years as correspondent and columnist for al-Sharq al-Awsat has earned him a world-wide audience of admirers. Over his long, active life he has constantly travelled to the Middle East and his knowledge of that complicated, often bewildering area is unparalled. He first visited Oman in the autumn of 2004 and what he saw there convinced him the Omani government had created a vibrant, relevant form of democratic rule.
