📖 The Scoop
Aviation is the world's fastest growing transport industry with the Asia-Pacific region having seen the fastest growth in recent years. It is vulnerable to unlawful acts of interference such as hijackings, bombings or sabotage. To deal with the emergence of such threats in the early 1970s, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which was established by the Chicago Convention in 1944, developed Annex 17 to the convention. This Annex sets out the broad parameters of the world aviation security regime with which more than 170 contracting states to the Chicago Convention must comply. The primary objective of the audit was to assess the economy, efficiency and effecitveness of the Department of Transport and Regional Development's implementation of Annex 17 in the Australian aviation environment.
