In many of our Churches we have taught our children to sing the song "Abraham hath many sons, many sons hath father Abraham. I am one of them and so are you?". As a Gentile believer, I have been adopted into a Jewish family of Old Testament Saints which includes Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Would Timothy's grandmother, Lois, had been considered an Old Testament believer? In other words, was she saved prior to God being made flesh? What about Simeon or Anna being believers prior to the Cross? What about John the Baptist's parents, Zacharias and Elisabeth? (these three were all filled with the Holy Ghost prior to the Cross - Lk 1:15,41,67). What about Mary, the mother of Jesus? One may argue that the Old Testament saint never saw Christ. May I remind you if you are saved today you have never seen Christ either other than through the eye of faith as Moses "?for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible." (Heb 11:27) "Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham." (Gal 3:6-9).
