Yet up to now there has been no single source which provides the answers. The British Electorate 1963-1992 adds data from the 1992 British Election Study to the first edition of this work which extended to 1987. It provides an authoritative reference guide to British voters and elections, and is based on a wealth of statistical information collected by British Election Study research teams at the Universities of Oxford and Essex for almost thirty years. The information presented covers a wide range of topics including voting patterns, turnout, party membership, partisanship and attitudes on issues ranging from nationalisation to capital punishment, abortion and welfare benefits. There are also separate tables for groups within the electorate such as men and women, different generations, trade unionists, the unemployed and Conservative and Labour voters. Tables deal with the same groups for each election, allowing the reader to look up information for a specific election year, to compare any two elections between 1963 and 1992 or to trace trends across the whole period.
