Over ten years, thirty three doctors, five of them women, and five physician's wives recount with deep sensitivity their life adventures during and after the Vietnam War which ended on April 30, 1975. Among published non-medical texts, this is arguably the one written by the largest assembly of doctors. Fourteen among them are authors or editors of magazines and books of art, ecology, history, poetry, and war biographies. "Across Shining Seas: The Mayflowers of 1975 -Bilingual Edition" tells their personal stories of service, struggle, survival and hope. Written by people who actually lived the events, this historic documentary shares some captivating "war and peace" actions, and is complemented with an overview of Vietnam as a nation and recollections of an American Professor who assisted medical education in Saigon. Using a bilingual approach in an effort to promote their native language, the Editors strived to maintain the book's uniqueness and preserve its veracity by avoiding strong political overtones.
