In October 1998, Sourcebooks published We Interrupt This Broadcast -- a book and CD set by Joe Garner that featured the stories and actual broadcasts of the major news events of the twentieth century. Although audio books had been available before, this new "mixed media" approach presented readers with a vitally different opportunity, and they embraced it. Sourcebooks followed this New York Times bestseller with And The Crowd Goes Wild, a collection of memorable moments in sports history that also mixed text with audio and, like its predecessor, made its way to the New York Times bestseller list. In 2000, Sourcebooks published two more mixed media books: And The Fans Roared, a follow-up to And The Crowd Goes Wild; and The Second City, a 40-year recollection of the theater and people that put Chicago comedy on the map.
